Being Fancy! Metallic Print

I decided to wear this outfit to a reception dinner. I really like this outfit because it is very feminine, young, and fresh. The dress is cream with a silver metallic floral print. The dress actually came with the silver belt, which is awesome because I can take the belt off and pair it with other outfits. I got a new dress and a new accessory, yay!. This dress accentuates my curves well because of its structure and relative stiffness, though it was not form-fitting. The back was a little low-cut, making it kind of sexy and adding to the femininity.  Originally I thought that the sliver metallic print would be over the top, but it gave a classy dress some sass. I give shiny, metallic, and glitter two thumbs up.

Accessories: I chose to wear the blue-green shoes because they added a pop of color and did not clash with the sliver. I wore a silver earring and necklace set, but I think that that the outfit would have been cute with green jewelry as well. I also think that it would be fun to experiment with belt color and flats instead of heels.

10 Things I Love About My Natural Hair

I love my hair so much. I first began to appreciate my natural hair over four years ago. It was challenging at first and it still has it's challenges, but more than anything it has been rewarding. It has really helped me to shape my own standard of beauty. Now I feel that I can't not really be myself if I am not able to appreciate myself in the way in which I was born. I love me, and I love myself even more now that I can appreciate what my ancestors have passed down to me. For many a look is not complete unless they feel and look beautiful from head to toe. Hair is fashion. Fashion is confidence. Confidence is the best accessory you can possess.

What do you think?

In your opinion, can you look good without liking your hair? Also, what hairstyles do you like and why?

New Trend Alert! Sheer Skull Shirts

These shirts have become very popular in the last few months. Below is an image from the ABC Family show Pretty Little Liars, showing one of the characters in the show rocking a sheer skull top. I am not really a big fan of the show, but I do appreciate their focus on fashion. I find many of the looks to be right up my alley in terms of style.

While I am a big fan of sheer dress shirts, the jury is still out about this skull print trend. Skulls can be cool and edgy, but they CANNOT be overdone. I usually don't teeter on the side of the morbid, but the sheer dress shirt style is cute and I do like the edition of the tie-front for some of the styles of this shirt. I feel that if I were to buy a shirt like this I would look for a smaller skull print. I think that these shirts would look good with colored pants or a bright colored tank.

Casual In My Kicks

Though I rarely ever rock sneakers or t-shirts, I do like to mix it up occasionally. This is the outfit that I wore to a Kendrick Lamar concert. Usually I am not really a themed dresser, but I really liked the sneakers when I saw them so I figured that I needed to create an outfit that was suitable. It was a new look for me but I liked it. The shoes were really well received.

The shirt is a small men's top from an online street-wear company called Rhymes and Designs, more of their looks can be found at http://rhymesanddesigns.com/.

I thought that all black was the best direction to go with this outfit, but I felt that I needed to draw attention to the sneakers so I picked a tank that matched the check. I think that this outfit is very representative of the concept that fashion is not uniform. Fashion is what looks good; everyone can wear many different styles.

Accessories: I wore dangly black leaf earrings to complement the outfit.

Note: I do not usually highlight brands.

When you switch up your style, what do you like to do?

Thrift Store Treasure

Now I know that thrift stores have gotten really popular in the last year or so, but I have actually been a fan of thrift stores for quite some time. What's not to love about gently used clothing that is a fraction of its original price. Thrift stores also offer a very eclectic assortment of clothes and accessories. You can find items from all seasons, different decades, or even some of the new current trends. You never know what awesome piece you will acquire after visiting a thrift store. They are like treasure troves. Most of all I love that thrift stores offer items that are not currently sold in stores, thus it is less likely that someone else will be caught wearing your piece (which I HATE). Thrift stores make me feel as if I can really express myself through fashion without commercial restrictions.

The shirt that I am wearing was bought at a thrift store. I like this shirt because it goes well with my "grown 'n sexy" transition and it also has this lovely blue-green color that is very bright and sassy. I decided that I must buy this shirt when I saw that the shirt featured two different blue and black patterns. There is the striped pattern throughout most of the shirt except for the collar and cuffs, which feature a funky pattern.

Accessories: The perfect blue-green heels were just items pulled out of my closet (they did NOT come from the thrift store).
